Cop's Wife Remanded In Kirikiri Prison

The wife of a police sergeant, Mrs. Omotola Daniel has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison,  Apapa, Lagos Nigeria for her failure to bring to court a man she stood surety for at the  police station.

The 39-year old mother of three, signed the bail bond for her brother in-law, Segun Alimi  who was facing a charge of stealing. But she failed to produce him to the police when  demanded.

gathered that Segun stole a laptop worth N110,000, property of Felicia Babajide  and was arrested and taken to the police station where Omotola stood surety for him.

However, when the defendant was released, he ran away and since then nobody could trace  his whereabouts. Omotola, his sister in-law could not find him as well.

Consequently, the police at Shasha division arrested and charged her to Ejigbo  Magistrate’s Court.

The offence, the police prosecutor said is contrary to Section 216 of the Criminal Code,  Cap. 38 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

She pleaded not guilty . The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. S. O. Solebo, granted her bail in  the sum of N50,000 with one surety in the like sum.

The matter has been adjourned till 11 October, 2010 for hearing.
