Barely a day after resumption, a LAMATA bus, this morning, knocked down and killed a school boy in Ketu Area of Kosofe Local Government in Lagos, South West Nigeria.
The boy, P.M.NEWS learnt, was trying to cross the busy Ikorodu expressway and did not know that a speeding mass transit bus was approaching when tragedy struck.
Eyes witnesses told P.M.NEWS that the bus was outside the BRT lane when the incident took place at about 8.30 a.m. today.
The boy, whose identity could not be ascertained at the time of going to press, was about eight years old and was not accompanied by any adult, witnesses said.
A stone’s throw from where the incident happened, there is pedestrian bridge barely used by commuters who just cross the road while running, hoping they will not be knocked down by speeding vehicles.
“It reminds me of what the musician said that everything is scattered in the country. Look at this situation. The boy was trying to cross the expressway unaccompanied. The bus lane was not on the BRT lane. The boy did not use the pedestrian bridge. And now, he is killed,†an eye witness said.
Eyes witnesses said that the boy’s corps was taken to the BRT headquarters in Ojota.

May the soul of the poor boy rest in peace, he is a victim of our system. I think the BRT bus drivers are trying to replace the danfo bus drivers. It is high time they are put in check before they do more harm to the society.
This incident is very unfortunate, but the bulk of the blame should be passed to the parents who value materials things of this world than their child(ren). How can they leave an eight year old boy to cross expressway? God will not forgive them.
