A 16-year old Togolese maid Sandra Anago and two others are currently standing trial before Shomolu Magistrate’s Court, Shomolu Lagos, Nigeria, for stealing, conspiracy and receiving stolen goods.
Those charged along with her are: Mrs. Maria Adekoya, 42, and Mr. Onaolapo Kunle, 41.
Sandra, a house help with Mrs. Adunola Akinmarin, 1o, Kara Street, Ajao Estate, Mushin, Lagos, was alleged to have stolen jewel and a handset valued N3 million on 4 August, 2010.
While Sandra and Mrs. Adekoya were charged for conspiracy and stealing, Mr. Onalapo and Mrs. Adekoya were charged with receiving the stolen jewel and handset from the housemaid.
The offence according to the police prosecutor, Mr. Adegoke Akinlabi, an Inspector, the offences are punishable under Section 516, 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, vol. 2, laws of Lagos State of nigeria, 2003.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by the court.
Adekoya and Onaolapo have been released on bail but the housemaid is still being remanded at the Idi-Araba’s Remand Home.
The case has been adjourned till 18 October, 2010 for trial.
