The desire to get married and settledown landed a 23-year old woman in trouble when she lost N400,000 to her lover.
The woman, Kate Okon Uweh claimed that her lover, Matthew Joseph Etuk, 24, has robbed her of N400,000 on they pretence of getting her a shop so that he will marry her.
The complainant claimed that Matthew approached her and said that he was willing to marry her. He also promised to open a shop where she can earn a legitimate earning.
She obliged him and asked him to look for a shopn at Igando area. Later he told her to bring money so that they could pay for the shop.
Kate, claimed that she was in possession of money while they were travelling from Idimu to Igando, Matthew was making calls. Later she discovered that he did not arrange to hire any shop as he claimed.
She narrated that while they were going back to Idimu in a taxi, two men on motorcycles stopped them and claimed that they were policemen and snatched the bag containing the N400,000.
“While they were escaping, Matthew attempted to ride with them on the same motorcycle. I drew him back and came to the conclusion that he planned the attack,†she revealed.
Kate said she raised an alarm and passersby helped her to apprehend Matthew. The police was later invited and he was arrested and taken to the station.
Matthew was charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court with conspiracy and stealing. When the charge was read to him, he pleadaed not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. S. O. Solebo granted him bnail in the sum of N400,000 with one surety in the like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 6 October, 2010 for trial.
