Even You, Senator Ken Nnamani

After the annulment of June 12 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief Moshood  Abiola, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which provided a platform for  the resounding victory began to dance naked in the market square.

The Chairman of the Party Chief Tony Anenih, Ojo Maduekwe and other pillars of June 12  sacrificed the mandate of their party for a mess of porridge. Others like Chief Abiola’s  running mate, Alhaji Babagana Kingide and other promoters of June 12 like Olu Onagoruwa,  Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Abubakar Rimi, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Dr Iyorchia Ayu and Mr. Alex  Ibru joined the cabinet of General Abacha.

When Professor Wole Soyinka saw these names he shed hot tears. Words failed him after the  swearing-in ceremony and he could only manage to say a one-line three-word statement in his  native language oro pesi je, meaning the proposition swallows response.

I found myself in the same position as Wole Soyinka when I saw Senator Ken Nnamani the  former Senate President beside IBB as the former dictator declared his intention to run for  the presidency yesterday in Abuja.

When I saw the photograph on Sahara Reporters, I was stunned into disbelief. I shouted in  Igbo language. Efue mu ooo! Meaning I am lost. Many questions came to my mind: what is  Senator Ken Nnamani doing with treasury looters in Abuja? What is my hero of the OBJ’s  ‘third term agenda’ doing with the man who destroyed our yesterday and took our country back  by 40 years?

What business does Nnamani have with  IBB? What is the eagle doing with this lily-livered  chicken? Could it be that Nnamani is broke? Ah! Ah!! If gold rusts what will iron do? Nwanna  a Nnamani biko si ebe IBB no pu a. Ndi di ndu na ndi nwuru anwu enweghi nmeko. Restore your  dignity now Nnamani and run 40-40 away from IBB. Ebe a ina eje uzo adighi ya.
