A chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Lagos, Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku has declared that it is the party that will decide whether Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State will go for a second term or not.
Odunmbaku’s declaration is coming on the heels of assurance given by the state Commissioner for Sports, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele that members of the state executive council were fully in support of Governor Fashola going for a second term.
Cardinal Odunmbaku who marked his 64th birthday with a visit to the Modupe Cole Memorial Home for the less privileged, Akoka, Bariga Local Government, Lagos State, made the declaration in his house after the visit.
Asked to comment on the clamour by Fashola’s supporters that he should be given an automatic ticket for a second term in the 2011 election, Cardinal Odunmbaku declared that the party’s decision on the matter is final.
“The party has not sat down to say this is the person going or not. The party’s decision on this issue is supreme and final,†the ACN chieftain declared.
He lauded Fashola for his sterling performance in the state, adding that Lagos is now the envy of other states because of Fashola’s performance.
The AC politician explained that Fashola has a good chance of picking the ticket for a second term because no governor has performed like him.
Odunmbaku called on other politicians to emulate him by giving succour to the less privileged in the society.
The ACN chieftain who is popularly called Baba Eto by his numerous admirers, thanked God for giving him the opportunity to visit the Modupe Cole Memorial Home for the Less Privileged to see things for himself.
“I won’t stop coming here until God calls me,†he added.
He donated N200,000 to the home and also gave N100,000 to the staff of the home.
