Anti-robbery policemen in Lagos State have arrested 17 men, including an elderly man at their hideout in Akala, Mushin, Lagos State, for dealing in hard drugs.
The suspects are Owolabi Idowu, 26; Idris Semiu, 27; Oyeniran Opeoluwa, 24; Sakiru Owolabi, 30; Tunde Gbadegbo, 25; Taye Idowu, 20 and Lamide Adisa, 20.
They were arrested by a team of police officers led by CSP Fagbemi Segun in charge of the state SARS.
Some of the suspects said they went to the notorious area to smoke Indian hemp and denied allegation that they were buying and selling cannabis.
One of them, Idowu confessed that he smoked Indian hemp only in the morning before leaving for work as a bus driver.
Some of the items recovered from the suspects include six 50kg bags of Indian hemp, charms, powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, hot drinks, measuring equipment, cutlasses, among other dangerous weapons.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State, Frank Mba, said a discreet investigation and screening of some of the suspects will take place while the drugs recovered will be sent to the NDLEA for proper identification.
Those found guilty would be prosecuted, he added.
