The residents of Bailey, Akeju, Oguntolu, Partey and Agunbiade streets in Somolu, Lagos, have protested the incessant power outage by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
The residents trooped out with placards bearing various inscriptions, chanting war songs and stormed the PHCN office at 180/183, Moyosore House, Ikorodu road, Onipanu, Lagos, to show their displeasure.
They accused the PHCN operation manager of diverting power supply meant for their area to other streets and for the use of private companies.
One of the protesters, Mrs. Bola Ogunbambo complained about the PHCN’s operations in Onipanu and accused the officials of hiding under the excuse of load shedding to deny them of power supply for up to 10 days in a month whereas they were made to pay for 30 days per month.
Addressing the protesters, the Business Manager, Engr. Chris Okonkwo, pleaded with them to be patient with the PHCN in the unit, adding that he had discussed their problem with the management.
On the allegation levelled against the operations manger, Okonkwo urged the people to be calm and assured them that the management would investigate the allegation.
