Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Tunji Egbetokun has described his purported removal from office by eight members of the state House of Assembly as illegal, void and of no effect.

Reacting to a statement sent out by the minority lawmakers removing him as speaker of the State House of Assembly,  Egbetokun said at a media briefing this afternoon in Lagos that the minority members broke all norms by breaking into the chambers around 6. a.m and held an illegal meeting during which they took an illegal action.

“Governor Daniel is an embodiment of illegality. He orchestrated the present move. They sat and removed 14 of us. They also approved the N100 billion bond and the supplementary budget which the assembly had earlier thrown out.

“There is no point joining issues with these people because their action is far from being legitimate. The illegality of their action can be further seen in the presence of two suspended members of the house at the sitting,” he stated.

All members of the G-15 led by Egbetokun were around during the press conference except Hon. Alausa who was in the U.S and Hon Oshun who was caught up in a traffic gridlock at Ota, Ogun State.

“We are 15 and we are still intact.  We are cohesive. It’s because they can’t break us that they went into this illegality.

“Our resolution 167 barring financial institutions from giving the state government the N100 billion bond it is seeking for from the Capital Market still stands. I will advise financial institutions not to listen to the renegades.

“I am also advising the government not to spend a kobo from the supplementary budget which the house had earlier rejected.

Other members of the house who spoke at the parley described Governor Daniel as an ‘awada kerikeri’, adding that “Is sad that the governor has descended to this level in his bitter dispute with the state legislators.”

In his own remarks, deputy speaker of the house, Hon. Remi Hassan, described what is going on in Ogun State as a drama. “The masquerade will soon show its face. He did this to scuttle the debate between him and the legislators scheduled for Wednesday,” he added.
