A former policewoman has dragged her husband before the Ikeja Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos to seek dissolution of her marriage.
The woman, Mrs. Oseni, popularly called Mama Olamilekan appealed to the court to dissolve her five-year old marriage to her husband, Mr. Oseni who has three kids from another relationship.
Addressing the court, Mrs. Oseni said: “I want our marriage dissolved because my husband usually beat me, drinks uncontrollably, fornicates and doesn’t care about me.â€
In his response, Mr. Oseni denied the allegations, saying: “Before she married me, I was very wealthy. I gave her money to start business and also rented a shop for her. I travelled several times to Ibadan to help her buy groundnut oil to sell to the extent that people started calling me ‘Baba Olororo’ till tomorrow.
“But in 2007, my fortune changed and since then, she changed towards me,†he added.
Mr. Oseni soberly continued, “She doesn’t care about me anymore. She leaves home and comes back very late in the night. She gives me flimsy excuses when I complain. She shouts at me and abuses me.
“I have pleaded with her, lying flat on the floor several times but she refused. I guess she has a place to live now.â€
The respondent disclosed further that he borrowed money from Cooperative Bank in Ibadan for her to start business and also rented a shop for her in Agege where she sells rice and groundnut oil.
But the petitioner insisted that the marriage should be dissolved and their only child, Olamilekan Oseni, four and a half year, to live with her.
The matter has been adjourned till 6 September, 2010.
