Former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) has been told to perish the idea of ruling the country again after his inordinate ambition led him to annul the fairest and freest election in the history of the country.
Giving this advice in his office in Lagos, General Overseer of Vineyard Christian Ministries, Bishop John Osa-Oni described as “crumb mentality†Babangida’s decision to vie for next year’s presidential election.
Crumb mentality, according to him, is putting oneself first in everything instead of the interest of the people.
“I don’t know what Babangida wants to do again after spending eight years as the country’s military president. He should be ashamed of himself for coming out again to contest the country’s presidency. He is 67 years or so, he should go and enjoy his looted wealth.
“I don’t know what he is coming to do again. This is a man that annulled the freest and fairest election in the history of the country and denied the winner the opportunity to contribute to the development of the country,†he stated.
Bishop Osa-Oni urged Nigerians to do away with the crumb mentality by voting for credible leaders in the 2011 elections.
“The 2011 election is coming, let’s go for credible leaders. No one should sell his/her votes. Don’t sell your birthright.
“We have missed two capable leaders who could have transformed this country. I am referring to Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Basorun MKO Abiola.
“This is the time to change the mindset of the people. Awolowo and Abiola are not concerned with themselves but the people,†he said.
The bishop also disclosed that his church would be holding its annual convention tagged “Kingdom Celebration,†with the theme: No More Crumbs as from 6-12 September, 2010 at the church auditorium, 34/36, Osolo Way, Ajao Estate and invited members of the public to the event.
On the aim of the programme, Bishop Osa-Oni said: “This is the time to change the mindset of the people by educating them. Until the mindset of the people is changed, nothing will happen. The future is nothing that comes suddenly, it begins with today’s dream. When the people have a dream or idea today, things will change. That is the theme of our kingdom celebration.
“We want to change people’s mindset from that of the crumb to a greater one,†he added.
