The Lagos State Sports Council and members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos Chapter, will hold a candle light for the late Emeka Enechi who died at the age of 40.
Enechi, who was one of the founding Editors and Assistant General Manager, Sports Day Newspaper died in a motor accident recently in Asaba, Delta State.
According to the programme lined up for today, there will be a service of songs at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba at 5p.m. Thereafter, the procession moves to the SWAN secretariat inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria for the candle light to honour their departed colleague.
Meanwhile, sports journalists have continued to eulogise the late Enechi for his contributions to sports development in Nigeria. Most of them who signed the condolence register at the SWAN secretariat expressed their grief over the painful demise of Enechi.
Chairman of Lagos SWAN, Niyi Oyeleke, said Enechi’s death is a great loss to the sports fraternity. He said the association will continue to remember his good works for years to come. Nnamdi Okosieme of Next newspaper said he was shocked beyond words when he heard of the death of Enechi.
