The chairman of Surulere Local Government, Dr. Rasak Folami has promised residents that the  council will soon embark on palliative measures to make the bad roads motorable.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS on the state of roads in the council area, Dr. Folami said road  construction has always been a priority of the council but because of the cost of constructing  a standard facility, the council has been taking it one after the other.

“The state government has a standard that we all have to maintain. When you construct a road,  it must have deep drainage channels made of concrete, walkways, street lights and of course  three or four layers of piling before the asphalt. So, you see, it is not cheap at all.

“We have been able to construct Adebola Street, Allen Street, Iyun Road, Iponri Road and a host  of others. There are plans to construct more. We’re not resting on our oars,” he added.

He added that the council was still discussing with stakeholders at the Iganmu Industrial  Estate to collaborate with the council in the construction of roads in that area. “We have  graded the roads several times but because of the heavy duty vehicles that use the road, the  effort has not been worth the trouble.”

Dr. Folami promised that as soon as the rains stop, rehabilitation will begin on the bad roads  and residents can rest assured that palliative measures will soon be put in place.
