FG To Procure N1.8billion Books For Primary Schools

The Federal Government has approved the award of contract for printing and procurement of books. in English language, Mathematics and science based books worth N1.8 billion.

This was disclosed by the Minsiter of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akuyili at the end of today’s meeting of Federal Executive Council.

She said the books will be distributed to primary school pupils in some states of the federation under the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs Textbook Initiative by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.

The contract will be funded by the Universal Basic Education Commission from 2010 Supplementary Budget under the MDGs Textbooks initiative for procurement of textbooks.

Seven companies will take part in the printing of the textbooks which was expected to be concluded in six weeks.

The Federal Government also at today’s meeting of FEC approve the award of contract for the construction of a headquarters for the Code of Conduct Bureau in Abuja at the cost of N3.5 billion.

The completion period for the contract is 26 months.
