COTECNA Educates On Destination Inspection

The Managing Director of COTECNA Destination Inspection Limited, CDIL, Mr. Yahaya Adetayo Rabiu, has stated that the objectives of Destination Inspection scheme include facilitating trade with the use of world class tools and technology by making use of X-ray scanners and computerized Risk Management System, CRMS.

He made this known at a roundtable stakeholders discussion organised by the Maritime Reporters Congress of Nigeria, MARCON.

As regards capacity building, the Coil boss said there is an agreement between the company and the Nigeria Custom Service, NCS, to train men and officers on modern scanning methods and the effective usage of modern scanning equipments in detention fraudulent activities of importers and exporters vis-à-vis their agents so as to enhance professionalism.

He also revealed that over 300 officers of the NCS and so other stakeholders have been trained by COTECNA in different courses ranging from image analysis and scanner operations, scanner maintenance, risk management, value quest, web services and computer appreciation skills.

The Managing Director of COTECNA listed reasons for scanning to include delays in clearance of cargo. He said scanning would increase the volume of imports into the country and encourage transactions and also facilitate trade and competition internationally.
