Woman Loses N2.5m To Bag Snatchers

A Lagos woman, Mrs. Aghata Dickson, has lost the sum of N2.5 million to three bag snatchers around a new generation bank located in Isolo area, Lagos Nigeria.

The suspects, Moses Ifeanyi Chukwu, 34, Jeffery Imolu, 35, and a lady, Chisa E. Ineh, 35, were allegedly to have snatched a hand bag containing the amount from the woman recently, but they were later apprehended by the police.

They were later arraigned before court 1, Chief Magistrate’s Court, Yaba, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

The count two of the charge which was read to them by the court’s prosecutor, Mr. O. Okorie, reads: ‘‘that you Moses Ifeanyi Chukwu, Jeffery Imolu, and Chisa E. Ineh, in the month of January 2010, around a new generation bank, Isolo Lagos, in the Magisterial District, did steal a bag containing N2.5 million, property of Mrs. Aghata Dickson and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. C.17 Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.’’

They pleaded not guilty to the two-counts charge and they were granted bail in the sum of N200, 000. each with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. O. Isaac, are to deposit the 10 percent of the amount into the Lagos State government account, have their addresses verified and must be tax paying citizens of Lagos State.

The case has been adjourned till 8 September, 2010 for trial.
