Battle For Tickets Hots-Up, As Pillars, Kada, Hoppers Qualify For Final Eight

With just two matches to go, the defending champions  Pillars Basketball Club of Kano and Kada Stars Basketball Club of Kaduna are sure of making the Final Eight of the DSTV/NBBF Premier League coming up in Port Harcourt next month.

The other two tickets remaining for clubs in the Savannah conference are still up for grabs, as Bauchi Nets Basketball Club, Yelwa Hawks Basketball Club and Niger Potters Basketball Club go for the slots.

At the Atlantic Conference, only Royal Hoppers Basketball Club are sure of making the final Eight with the remaining three tickets still open to Union Bank Basketball Club, Dodan Warriors Basketball Club, Police Baton Basketball Club and Ebun Comets Basketball Club.

Agboola Pinheiro, a member of the league board says the league has brought out the best in the players, which manifested in the national team’s qualification for the FIBA-Africa Nations Cup.   Nigeria paraded only home-based players during the qualifiers.

The former chairman of Lagos State Sports Council, LSSC, noted that the live broadcast of some of the matches helps in improving the standard of the game, while many of the players have also improved tremendously.

Meanwhile, Basketball Timeout gathered that the sponsors of the league, DSTV will not broadcast matches of the Atlantic conference this season due to the poor facilities at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State.

it was gathered that the Indoor Sports Hall is not television friendly, the floor is in a very bad shape while the clubs are not doing enough to change the facilities at the stadium.

Reports also revealed that poor attendance of spectators during matches is affecting the league.

Apart from Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt and Delta Force of Asaba, the other clubs at the conference play their matches at the National Stadium.
