Ex-Council Chairman’s Wife Kidnapped

Unidentified gunmen at about 7.30 p.m. yesterday stormed the shop of Mrs. Soye Aroloye Brown, wife of the former Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Council of Rivers State, located along Aker Road Port Harcourt, South-South Nigeria, and abducted her to unknown destination.

The former council boss, who contacted LOVE FM, a Port Harcourt-based radio station last night through text message over the incident said : “My wife Soye Aroloye Brown was kidnapped about 7.30 p.m. 25th August, 2010, along Aker Road,Port Harcourt in her shop. They came with a Gulf Car with registration No.DW 61 APP (Lagos).Chief Aroloye Brown.”

Since the kidnap, no contact has been established with either the kidnappers or with the victim. No ransom demand has also been made since then.

Chief Brown, who is a stalwart of the People’s Democracy Party, PDP, in the state and was Council boss during the Dr. Peter Odili administration, has appealed to the kidnappers to release his wife unharmed.

He lamented that exactly a year ago, his mother was kidnapped and later released.

The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Rita Innoma-Abbey and the state Director of SSS, told P.M.NEWS this morning that they are aware of the incident and have set in motion the process of rescuing the victim.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Abba, confirmed last night that Soboma George, the ex-militant leader was the person killed by yet to be identified gunmen.

Abba assured all repentant militants and militant leaders that 24 hours patrol has started in flashpoints like Nembe, Bundu, Marine Base, Borokiri, etc. jointly between with the Army and Police with several armoured personnel carriers, APCs.

He said the assassins made away with the body of the slain the ex-militant leader.
