Okada Menace: Lagos Holds Forum

Before it begins final clampdown on okada riders in Lagos State, Nigeria, government is holding a forum tomorrow to deliberate on the menace posed by the riders.

The meeting would deliberate on how best to checkmate the menace posed by commercial motorcycle operators in the state and ensure sanity on Lagos roads.

A statement from the Ministry of Transportation said the forum was aimed at communicating government’s intention and engaging the general public and stakeholders, including the motorcycle riders, transport unions, human rights groups, the media, religious organisations and other professional bodies, in promoting safety, security and orderliness on the roads.

The forum will take place at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The forum, which will be declared opened by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, will have in attendance top officers of enforcement agencies and commanding officers of security formations, including the Nigeria Police, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA); Federal Road Safety Corps, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, Task Force, the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force, among others.
