The police in Lagos have declared a man hunt for an auto dealer for stealing N700,000 proceeds from the car he allegedly sold for his customer.

The car dealer, whose name was given as Mathew Olatunji, was said to have been given a Toyota Corolla car to sell by the customer (name withheld) for N800,000, but sold the car marked LAGOS BW 716 APP, to one Ayodeji A. Obatoye, for N700,000 and made away with the money.

As all attempts to locate him failed the customer reported the matter to the police at Area G Command, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, South West Nigeria.

The police, according to P.M. NEWS checks, have since commenced investigation into the matter.

According to a police source at Area G Command, “declaring Mathew Olatunji wanted became necessary since all efforts to locate him has so far proved abortive,” while Ayodeji Obatoye was advised to report to Area G Command, Monitoring Section, with the car since the original particulars were still with the owner.

Speaking with P.M. NEWS on condition of anonymity, the owner, who works with a new generation bank, said he had just got married and needed money to put into his private business, adding that his friend introduced him to Mathew.

P.M. NEWS findings also revealed that  when the police went to search Olatunji’s office, only the duplicate of the sale’s receipt bearing the name of Ayodeji A. Obatoye with his address was found, making the investigation difficult.
