Former chief judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Babatunde Belgore is dead.
According to sources, the former chief judge died at about 11 a.m. today from multiple organ failure at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos as a result of diabetes.
He was appointed Chief Judge in 1987 and took over from Fred Anyaegbunam.
He retired in 2001.
The late Belgore is survived by several children, four of them lawyers. One of them is Dele Belgore, a Senior advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
