‘We’ll Not Abandon Road Projects’

Lagosians have been assured that road projects initiated by the Lagos State Government will not be abandoned, but will be seen to their logical completion.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson, allayed the fears being expressed in some quarters that some road projects currently ongoing had been stalled.

Johnson, while inspecting the ongoing Iyana-Ipaja-Isheri-Ikotun reconstruction project, assured residents and motorists that the road project would be delivered before the end of the year.  Some of the ongoing projects misconstrued as being stalled are located within Iyana-Ipaja-Ikotun; Shasha-Orisunbare-Ejigbo; Ijegun-Isheri Oshun-Isolo and Association Road, among others. “These projects are, however, at different levels of completion and will never be abandoned,” Johnson assured.

He further stated that the Fashola-led administration had at several fora said that none of the projects initiated by it would be abandoned and that all shall be handed over to each community for their use upon completion.

According to him, this administration was not only committed towards construction and rehabilitation of roads, but equally committed towards maintenance of the existing road network.

“The present administration, as a matter of fact, has put in place an all-year round maintenance programme specifically being handled by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation located at Isheri.

“Majority of the roads in Lagos State, as a matter of fact, have outlived their design lifespan, which actually justifies the gradual reconstruction in phases of strategic roads across the state,” he stated, adding that under this holistic work plan, the state government had upgraded roads like Bourdillon, Gerald, Osborne, Alexander, Ozumba-Mbadiwe, Adetokunbo Ademola, Adeola-Odeku in Eti-Osa; Nurudeen Olowopopo in Ikeja, Shibiri Elegbin, Imude Road, Ajangbadi-Ilogbo-Eremi in Ojo council area; Joseph-Dosu, Market Street, Badagry Cemetery Road in Badagry and Agbelekale-Abule-Egba, Ekoro-Meiran in Alimoso local government, among others.

He added that under the reconstruction and upgrading programme, roads like Olugbede Street, Transformer Street and Wusamotu Oreagba Street in Alimoso local government area of the state had also been upgraded.
