The zoning system that is generating controversy among chieftains of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has been described as undemocratic and should not be mistaken for the federal character system.

Dr. Frederick Fasehun, founder of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), disclosed this at a forum organised by Kosofe Youth Alliance, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence.

Fasehun who was the guest speaker at the forum with the theme: ”The Youth and The Future,” called on youths to be determined to change the nation.

”The future of any country depends solely on its youths and if Nigerian youths refused to change the country now, nobody will change it for them.

”The zoning system introduced by the PDP is an embarrassment to the people of this country. It will never allow the country to get the best person to rule the country,” the OPC founder stated.

He commended Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for transforming Lagos, adding that the best man should be the leader.

”If you continue to depend on zoning, then you will deny people like Fashola the opportunity to serve the people.

‘‘Fashola should be giving the chance to serve the country after serving Lagosians.

‘‘Zoning is undemocratic and it is not in our constitution. What we have in our constitution is federal character but that has been jettisoned for zoning,’’ he said.
