The Lagos State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has created a ‘Help Desk’ to handle complaints by motorists in the state, over the genuiness or validity of their driver’s licence, with mobile number 08077690201 as the contact number for complainants.

This is sequel to the increasing complaints by motorists in Lagos State over daily harassment and arrest by traffic enforcement officers over the genuiness of their driver’s licence, which in most cases are described as fake and illegal.

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, Ojodu, detailing where they got the licence, when and where they were arrested and all other details necessary in addressing the complainants. In addition to the kind of treatment given to them when arrested, their e-mail address and mobile phone numbers.

”Motorists should, however, note that the Federal Road Safety Corps would not entertain complaints on licences that were not acquired from the appropriate office in the state,” the commission stated.

According to Agwu, the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007 and the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2004 specifically mandates applicants for driver’s licence to apply through the licensing office of the state where the applications are to be collected and payment made while testing of would-be applicants would be handled by the office of the Vehicle Inspection Offices before applicants are referred to the Information Processing Centres located at either the FRSC, Ojodu or other work stations at Ikeja, Bariga, Okokomaiko, Sura and Ikorodu.

”The Corps wishes to state categorically that it frowns at the present situation where motorists are made to pay for offences not committed based on mere suspicion and facial observation of driver’s licence without any device. It is morally and professionally wrong,” the commission added.
