The National Majority Democratic Party (NMDP)Â plans to make the provision of stable electricity a priority, if elected in the 2011 general elections to ensure development through industrialisation.
Mr Solomon Akpona, National Chairman of the part, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that stable electricity would help the industrialisation of the nation.
He said that most manufacturers and multinational companies were relocating to other countries because of unstable power supply in the country.
Akpona said the importation of generator into the country was being encouraged because it was the only source of getting stable power supply, adding that the use of generating sets caused noise pollution and in some cases led to deaths.
“When you go round to every home in Nigeria , everybody has a generating set to generate power in a country where there is enormous resources that is enough to provide electricity for its citizens
“Most of the industries in Nigeria today are not working because there is no power supply.
“Electricity is one vital sector that needs the attention of government because it affects the people directly; Nigerians need it to even charge our mobile phones and see at night among other things’’ Akpona said.
The chairman said if elected, the party would concentrate on providing stable electricity in the country, to ensure development and industrialisation.
According to him, with constant electricity, there will be industrialisation which will bring about development and create employment.
NMDP is in coalition with 10 political parties, including National Unity Party (NUP), Action Alliance (AA) and Republican Party of Nigeria (RPN), to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as a consensus presidential candidate for 2011 presidential elections.
