The second batch of ex-militants have arrived at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Obubra, Cross River State, to begin their transformational training on non-violence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trainees, drawn from Edo, Ondo and Delta states, arrived the camp between 1 and 2 August.

The second batch comprised of 670 ex-militants as against the 2,000 who participated in the first training that ended on 10 July.

A NAN correspondent who visited the camp, reports that the repentant militants from the Niger Delta states were seen undergoing their documentation and medical examinations.

Security at the camp was also tight, while work on the 40-hectare camp perimeter fence has been completed.

The refectory and kitchen were also expanded, while the number of petty traders allowed into the camp was drastically reduced.

The Camp Administrator, Mr. Ekpein Appah, told NAN that unlike in the first batch, when the repentant militants arrived in the camp from different locations, the new batch left together from Warri.
He said the ex-militants would spend 10 days in the camp instead of the usual two weeks.
Appah said the changes were as a result of an appraisal of the previous batch, “which was just a pilot phase.”
According to him, “we have not experienced any problems. We have 670 in this batch as against the more than 2,000 in the first batch.

“They all took off from Warri and we have ex-militants from Edo, Ondo and Delta in the current batch. They came with military escorts, a development which did feature in the first batch.
“They are going through the process of documentation, biometrics and medical check-up.”
