'Biafran' Law Breaker Docked

A 39-year old commercial motorcycle (Okada) rider in Lagos, Nigeria, Innocent, Ifeanyi Nwachukwu has told a Shomolu Magistrate’s Court that he is not a Nigerian but a Biafran.

Nwachukwu said since he was born in the eastern part of Nigeria, he has always identified with the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

The suspect is standing trial on a four-count charge of disobeying a police officer, riding his motorcycle in a reckless and dangerous manner and failing to produce the particulars of his motorcycle when demanded by a police officer.

The offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 36 (1) and 18 of the Road Traffic Law, Volume 6, Cap.124 and Section 45 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Volume 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The matter has been adjourned till a later dateention.
