Change is the only constant thing in life and Action Congress, a political party formed through the merger of several opposition parties, including Alliance for Democracy (AD) in September 2006, is set for a change.

The party will achieve this at its annual national convention that will hold on the 6 August, at LTV 8, Agidingbi, Lagos.

The name change has been applauded by party members who believe that the party belongs to all Nigerians. The name change from Action Congress to Action Congress of Nigeria is expected to lure more Nigerians to join the party ahead of the national polls in 2011.

Hon. Felix Adewale Ajayi, an AC chieftain from Oshodi/Isolo constituency, urged party members to vote overwhelmingly for the name change.

“This is not a Yoruba party; it is for all Nigerians. That is why the Nigeria incorporated into the name is pertinent. The merger will positively impact the electoral fortunes of the party. It will also create the opportunity to build a party with genuine national membership,” he said.

He added that this will stir a more transparent and internally democratic dispensation.

“The leadership of this party should be commended. The party has more credible people at the state and federal level. I think like minds should embrace this opportunity,” he stated.
