The Plateau Police Command on Wednesday directed officials of warring PDP factions to stay away from the party’s secretariat in Jos.

Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, the Commissioner, who gave the order, also warned members of the Abu King-Shuluwa Caretaker Committee to stay away from the secretariat pending the determination of a subsisting suit at the Court of Appeal.

Aduba advised the two sides to strive to avoid anything that could disrupt the “hard earned peace in the state.’’

“Officials of the two sides must remain calm and not indulge in any act capable of causing violence,’’ he warned.

He said that all sides must be patient and wait for the court verdict, saying that the Force would continue to monitor their activities to make sure that there was no breach of the peace.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that two factions of the PDP, led by Prof. Dakum Shown and Mr. Emmanuel Magni respectively, are locked in a battle over the control of the party.

NAN also reports that former PDP National Chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, last year dissolved the executive committees of both factions and replaced same with a caretaker committee.

In May, a Jos High Court gave recognition to the Shown faction, and declared that it had a legal tenure that should be served out.

The Court also ruled that there was nothing that had happened to invalidate that tenure, much less being replaced with a caretaker committee.

Dissatisfied with that ruling, the Magni faction had since filed an appeal against it at the Court of Appeal in Jos.

Hearing began on the case last month.
