The Executive of Lagos State Pools Agents Association, LASPAA, has warned pools promoters in the state over their deliberate ploy to change odds payment in the new English Season.

The association accused the promoters of misleading the staking public with the inconsistency in odds payment they printed on their coupons, a few days to the commencement of the English Season this weekend.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, president of the agents association, Major Sammy Ogunyebo (retd.) said the promoters are perpetrating illegality with their plan to operate dual odds payment in the new season. He disclosed that it has come to his notice that most of the promoters want to pay with 1-12 odds payment while few others go for 1-14.

“I want to say categorically that 1-12 is illegal. The law is very clear on this. The Edict on Pools says the odds remains 1-14 with no commission to stakers. But the promoters want to take the law into their hands,” he said.

Sammy said his members across the state should remain calm and patient as LASPAA is pursuing the crusade to sanitise and check the excesses of the promoters in conjunction with the state government.

“We have written a proposal to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, which is receiving favourable attention in the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Lanre Babalola. We have been told that any time from now we’ll meet with the governor himself, who has shown interest in listening to our demands.”

“The governor wants to meet us and I’m happy that the Office of the Chief of Staff is cooperating with us. By the time we meet Fashola and table our demands as regards to the proposal we wrote to him, things will change for the better,” he said.
