Falconets Await Jonathan’s Largesse, Players Cold Over Scholarships

As President Jonathan Goodluck hosts the gallant Falconets who did the nation proud at the just concluded Germany 2010 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the ladies are waiting for presidential cash rewards.

P.M. Sports gathered that like Oliver Twist, the Falconets, who won silver medal at the World Cup after bowing to Germany 0-2 in the final of the championship in Bielefed last Sunday in Germany, want the country to reward them with something better than the scholarships given to them by the Minister of Education, Rukiyat Rufai, at a reception organized by the First Lady, Mrs. Josephine Goodluck in Aso Rock, Abuja yesterday.

P.M. Sports learnt that the ladies felt uneasy with the scholarships from secondary school to university level, as they would have preferred immediate cash rewards which would have an immediate impact on  their lives now than never.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Jonathan led top women dignitaries to welcome the Falconets in Abuja yesterday.

“They have positioned themselves as role models to the youths and other girls out there,” she said.

“These are girls that were left here unknown and unsung, and nobody believed that they could do it, but they have shattered all the myths about women even with the little encouragement they had.”

The wife of the President advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to do their best to keep the team together.
