The Democratic Peoples’ Party (DPP), has faulted plans by INEC to use its biometric data of electorate, saying it will not guarantee free, fair and credible elections in 2011.

Malam Abdulrahman Yola, Youth Leader, DPP, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that the system could only help INEC have a reasonable data of registered voters.

The commission had said it would prevent multiple and fictitious names through the use of biometric database.

It also said the introduction of the system would foster transparency during the elections.

“This new method proposed by INEC is just an aspect to ensure a credible election. They have not used it before and it has not been tested,’’ he said.
