2 Scavengers Arraigned For Vandalism

Two men, Kabiru Alli, 25 and Salisu Ibrahim, 32, who claimed to be scavengers, have been arraigned before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Nigeria, for damaging train coaches.

They were said to have committed the offence on 25 July, 2010, within the premises of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, LOCO Bus Stop, Yaba, Lagos.

They were apprehended by the corporation’s securitymen after they entered the premises illegally.

They were also alleged to have stolen parts of a train valued at N100,000 and damaged properties within the corporation’s premises.

They were arraigned on a-four count charge of conspiracy, stealing, unlawful damage and unlawful invasion, offences contrary to Sections 516, 390 (9), 449(1) and 460 (3) of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate T. Abolarinwa granted them bail in the sum of N2 million each with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and must be tax payers.

Their addresses must also be verified by the court while they must deposit N50,000 each to the Chief Registrar of the court.

The case has been adjourned till 6 October, 2010 for trial.
