Though the Falconets did not win the Germany 2010 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Alhaja Ayo Omidiran believes the Nigerian ladies deserved to be celebrated.

The coach Edem Egan tutored team succumbed to the superior power of  Germany as they fell 0-2 in the tension soaked final played in Bielefeld yesterday. An early goal from their penalty-box princess, Alexandra Popp, and a late own goal earned the German ladies the hard fought victory to deny the Nigerians the glory in the world championship.

Omidiran, the former Nigeria Football Federation, NFF,  board member and a FIFA officer, while speaking on a live interview on Brila FM, said the Falconets had a good fight with the Germans, adding that the Nigerian team were gallant losers in the final.

“The final was a great game. I’m happy that our girls did not lose with scandalous goal margin. This showed that we had a good fight with the highly rated German ladies, whose female football had developed more than us in Nigeria,” she said.

“One thing that really helped Germany was that the stadium was full of chanting Germans, who gave enough support for their team to win the match.

“I’m happy for our girls for putting up that good courage to hold the Germans. I wish them better luck next time,” said the owner of the defunct Omidiran Babes of Oshogbo.

Omidiran disclosed that the First Lady, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan, who was in Germany to watch the final match has promised to host the ladies when they return to Nigeria.

“The First Lady was here to watch the match. She said that she would love to host the ladies when they return to Nigeria. We are waiting to hear from her to fulfill this promise, which I believe will go a long way in motivating the team and their officials,” she said.
