Michael Short, agent of Super Eagles’ foreign manager, Lars Lagerback says the ongoing restructuring in the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is scaring the Swede tactician from returning to the country.

Lagerback requested for just two weeks holiday after Nigeria’s poor outing at the recently concluded South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup, where the Eagles failed to win a match and finished at the bottom of their group. Since then, the former Sweden national team coach has refused to return to Nigeria, but his agent, Short, while speaking on Brila FM early today revealed that Lagerback is monitoring the situation in NFF, especially as relating to the ongoing restructuring in the Glass House and the coming NFF election next month, hence his delay in returning to the country to submit his World Cup report and negotiate an extension of his contract with Nigeria.

The agent said that Lagerback will like to discuss his new contract with a new board in the NFF rather than  deal with an interim board whose time in office is very short.

He allayed fear that the Swede coach won’t return to his job, adding that at no time has Lagerback wanted to dump his job as Eagles’ handler.

Short noted in the interview that the Swede wants to work as coach of the Super Eagles but obviously disturbed by the recent changes of officials in NFF.

It would be recalled that the Sani Lulu- led NFF board in conjunction with the Presidential Taskforce headed by River State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi appointed Lagerback on an interim five months contract, which will expire at the end of this month. There are indications that the Task Force is favourably disposed to extending the coach’s contract with a view of giving the country’s football a long term developmental programme.
