Former Super Falcons player, Gift Okunwa Sowemimo, says the Falconets of Nigeria have what it takes to go beyond the quarter final stage of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women World Cup taking place in Germany.

Nigeria drew 1-1 with Mexico yesterday in their last group match to book a place in the quarter final of the championship. Sowemimo, who was the assistant coach of the Falconets in the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup in Russia 2008, said the current Falconets are better than the previous teams, adding that if they remain focused and determined they can go all the way to the final.

“I see these Falconets moving close to the title because the way they played their two matches gives me confidence that they are good for the semi final stage. I wish them success in their remaining matches,” she said.

Asked which country can give Nigeria a tough time in the championship, the light skinned former player said only Germany will be difficult for Nigeria to overcome. She preferred the Falconets playing the host country in the final.

“I prefer Nigeria to meet the host country in the final because the German ladies are technically good. I don’t think any other country can pose a threat except the host country,” she said
