RSG, ESI, City And Guild Of London Partner To Train Youth

Rivers State Government is partnering with a Non-Government Organization (NGO), the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI),the pet project of the wife the Governor the Rivers State Governor, Mrs. Judith Amaechi, the City and Guild of London to provide technical skills training for youth in the state.

The partnership spearheaded by the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs and the Empowerment Support Initiative is aimed at training the youths, especially female in latest technology in technical skills including Brick Laying and Masonry, Carpentry and Joinery and Iron mongering.  Others are Painting and Decorating as well as Computer skills.

While flagging off the training, the Founder of ESI and wife of the State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi said the partnership was aimed at providing excellence in technical skills to arrest the growing population of unemployed youths who demonstrate poor artistic quality in their field of endeavour.

Mrs Amaechi stated that time has come for Rivers youths to embrace all opportunities provided by the government and its development partner to attain excellence in their field of endeavour.

The governor’s wife, who reiterated the need for the youths to initiate ideas capable of generating wealth and moving the state forward, stated that the partnership with the state government was in line with its policy to complement the human capital development of the people.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barrister Manuela Izunwa, noted that the identifiable skills for training have potentials to add value to the local economy, adding that the Rivers State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs was partnering with the ESI due to the sustainability and practicability of its approach to tackling poverty in the state.

She expressed optimism that the youths especially women will avail themselves of the opportunity to discover their talent.

Earlier, the City and Guild International representative, West Africa Region, Mr Kingsley Asiedu and administrator of ESI, Nowa  Omorogbe, said the programme will graduate first batch of 127 trainees who will be subjected and tested by the City and Guild International, adding that the certificates obtained after the training will be acceptable across the world for employment.

Some of the dignitaries including Oceanic Bank’s Head of Rivers and Bayelsa, Famous Ajemorona and Special Assistant on skills to the Rivers State Governor, Mary Allagoa, enjoined the trainees to be of good behaviour and use the training to develop their careers.

One of trainees who gave a vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues, Kio Onisodumeya expressed appreciation to ESI and the Rivers State Government for giving them an opportunity for a brighter future through the skills acquisition programme.

Dignitaries that attended the event included representatives from the Oceanic Bank, Bank of Industry, Metu Berger, Rivlux, finance institutions, top government functionaries among others.
