Secretary General of the  Nigeria Professional Powerlifting Association, Sangode Oladipupo, is lamenting that lack  funds has crippled his association and prevented it from executing most of its programmes for the year.

The scribe said the association is in financial crisis, adding that it will be difficult for them to execute their programmes before this year runs out.

He said the association has some good programmes for the athletes, but lack of funds and support from the Federal Ministry of Sports have been the major problems hindering the activities of his association.

“The association is suffering because we don’t get enough support from the Ministry of Sports. We expect the government to fund all the federations the way they are funding Nigeria Football Federation, NFF. If we get enough support like football, we would have taken part in many international competitions this year,” he said.

Oladipupo said if there is enough funding for the association, Nigerian powerlifters would have started preparing for the forthcoming Africa Powerlifting Championship in Algeria.

“Thank goodness that the Powerlifting Championship, which ought to hold in Algeria this month, has been postponed. But we still need to be in camp to get set for the new date,” said Oladipupo who has started seeking  corporate bodies for sponsorship.
