The 2010 Eastern Districts Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, will be focusing on the banking sector and the imperative of giving the Nigerian economy a new lease of life.
The conference, which has been scheduled to take place between Tuesday 20 July and Friday 23 July, 2010 at Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu will be declared open by Mr. Sullivan Chime,Â Governor of Enugu State while the 46th ICAN President, Major General Sebastian Achulike Owuama, B.Sc., FCA will deliver the keynote address.
The conference, which theme is Banking Reforms and Re-invigorating the Nigerian Economy, will feature paper presentations, workshops, plenary sessions, excursions and a gala night among other events.
According to the ICAN President, â€œthe conference promises to be a watershed. Apart from the stimulating topical issues put together for eminent resource persons to deliberate and pontificate upon, there will be a special meeting of Districts chairmen and members of the ICAN Governing Council, where a new agenda of the ICAN Council for the ICAN Districts will be unfolded in line with the promise I made in my acceptance speech during my investiture to devolve powers to our district societies.â€
Other dignitaries and resource persons expected at the conference include the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Professor A.I. Essien; Professor Ugochukwu Uche of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus; Professor Ogbonna Alaku, Enugu State University of Science and Technology and Alhaji Ismaila Zakari, a Member of the Governing Council of ICAN.
