Suspension: Court Fixes 19 July For Melaye’s Suit

Justice A. A. Kafarati of a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja this morning adjourned till 19 July, 2010, to hear the suit instituted by  Dino Melaye, and five others challenging their suspension from the House of Representatives.

Counsel to the suspended members, Mr. Femi Falana sought for an undertaking which would allow the suspended members to return to the House of Representatives to participate in the affairs of the house following his inability to move an interlocutory filed on behalf of the suspended members.

The attempt to move the interlocutory injunction notice by Falana was blocked by Mr. Demola Bakre and Waheed Gbadamosi counsel to the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, and the House.

Mr. Bakre informed the court that he had filed a notice of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court which ought to be taken first before the interlocutory injunction filed by the suspended members.

The court consequently adjourned on both the preliminary objection and the interlocutory motion.
