African Junior Table Tennis Championship: Nigeria Clinches Bronze Medal

Nigeria Table Tennis Federation has clinched the third position at the just concluded African Junior Table Tennis Championship in Congo Brazzaville.

The Secretary General of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Segun Oguntade told Sportsweight.blogspot.com that Nigeria’s representatives in the tournament secured 1 gold, 3, silver and 6 bronze medals.

According to him, Egypt that has a virile developmental table tennis programme emerged the winner with 7 gold, 1 silver and 8 bronze medals, while Tunisia settled for the second poition with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals in a competition which has 17 countries in attendance.

Oguntade, said the table tennis players who featured in the event were rookies, who have little  experience in international tournaments, but the federation considered it necessary to expose them to competitive events and also help them to build confidence to play established ping pongers especially the Egyptian players.

Oguntade, said the Nigerian team lost to Egypt in the semi final to pick third position, adding that the duo of Ojo Onaolapo and Janet Offiong were at their best as they helped the Nigeria team to reach the semi final stage.
