The Chairman, Committee for the return of former Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso of Kano State to power, Alhaji Yusuf Babangida, has asked the PDP leadership to sanction members of the state’s  PDP Youths Enlightenment Committee for “anti party behaviour.”

Babangida alleged in an interview with newsmen that the group was being sponsored by a “rival party” to destablise the PDP in the state.

“I believe that this people are being instigated by an opposition party to scuttle the existing peace among the members of PDP in Kano State and disciplinary action should therefore be taken against them,” Babangida said.

According to him, the group has no right to suspend the chairman of the party in the state.

He pointed out that only 29 members of the executive committee of the party had the mandate to carry out such an exercise.

He said the PDP Constitution stipulated that even the exco members could only take such a decision after they had found the chairman guilty of certain offences that could warrant the punishment.

Babangida regretted that the group’s action came at a time the various stakeholders in the party in the state were making concerted efforts to unite all members ahead of the 2011 general elections.

NAN reports that the PDP Youths Enlightenment Committee had issued a statement suspending the chairman of the party, Alhaji Faruk Iya, for allegedly disuniting members of the party.

The committee accused the chairman of associating himself with a particular group within the party, instead of carrying all groups along.
