I Lost Election Twice In PDP – Hon. Risikat Adegeye

The member representing Amuwo-Odofin constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos, Nigeria, Hon. (Mrs.) Risikat Ajoke Adeniyi Adegeye has revealed that she had lost election twice before she eventually got elected in 2007.

Speaking in an   interview with Political Train, the lawmaker, who is a wife of music maestro, Prince Sunday Adeniyi-Adegeye a.k.a. King  Sunny Ade disclosed that she had contested elections on the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999 and 2003 in Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Says Princess Adegeye: “I contested twice on the platform of the PDP and I lost, first as a councillorship candidate in Apapa in 1999 and the second time, I aspired for the House of Assembly in 2003 without success.

“My success came when I joined the Action Congress in 2006.

“I decamped to the Action Congress in 2006 when the mega parties came together and I was given the ticket to run for the House of Assembly in 2007 on the platform of the party. That’s how I became one of the state lawmakers today.”

Hon. Adegeye who is the chairman of the House ad-hoc committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) attributed her political success to the former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom she described as her political father and mentor.

The caterer turned politician, whose late mother, Mrs. Adebisi Olorunnishola nee Aboderin was a powerful politician and associate of the famous ‘Omopupa’ of Mushin, Lagos in the 50s and 60s, said she was motivated into politics by her mom with whom she stayed in Mushin and Ibadan,  Oyo State.

On the clash between her and her erstwhile friend,  the former deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. (Mrs.) Adefunmilayo Tejuosho of Mushin Constituency 1, Mrs. Adegeye attributed everything to the devil, saying that the issue had been resolved by the deputy governor, Mrs. Sarah Sosan and some political elders.

On her relationship with the present deputy speaker, Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Badmus-Olujobi, the 51-year old lawmaker who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State disclosed that they had always been sharing things in common, especially when they came from the same Amuwo-Odofin constituency with the speaker representing constituency 2.

Hon. Adegeye (nee Olorunnishola) on her marriage to music star, King Sunny Ade said, “I had always prayed for Sunny Ade to woo me because I love him so much and God granted my prayer as he toasted me at one of his shows in Ibadan in 1975. I was just in form three then at St. Timothy College, Iwaya-Onike, Lagos .”

Reacting to the allegation of certificate scandal levelled against her by a non-governmental organization (NGO), she said she was sure it was a mistaken identity and to clear herself of the mess, she had embarked on a legal approach to the matter.

“I was a bonafide student of St. Timothy College Iwaya-Onike from 1972 to 1977 when I sat for my school certificate which I passed and authenticated by WAEC, so I wonder where they came about my falsification of certificate. They even referred to me as the deputy speaker. Am I the deputy speaker?

“You can see this for yourself, (showing a text message from the St. Timothy College old students association meeting scheduled for Sunday, 4 July, 2010 at the school premises).

” If I were not a student of that school, would I have been recognised?,” Hon. Adeniyi- Adegeye queried.

She also threatened to sue a popular Lagos Island-based television station for slander. In their news broadcast of 21 and 22 June, 2010, she said they referred to her as a certificate fraudster.
