The Chairman, Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Nigeria, Mr. Abiodun Mafe has debunked several allegations levelled against him as regards his attitude towards the job he was elected to do. In an interview with Political Train, the Ijebu Ode-born community leader turned politician spoke on his achievements so far said.

Q: There have been allegations that you stay away from office and often go on overseas jamboree, how would you react to this?
A: I have been very, very much around in my local government area and the secretariat which is my office. I’ve been performing the duties which the electorate have given to me, and if you come to my office, you’ll see me there. Did you not meet me here now? I’m only out of here when I’m on official duty outside the state or outside the country. The allegation is very far from the truth.

Q: It was also alleged that at the beginning of your tenure, almost two years ago, you took off very well, implementing programmes, but shortly after, you abandoned projects in your domain. Mention was made of the deplorable road between estate gate and federal bus stop, what’s your reaction?
A: When it comes to infrastructure, we have done a lot in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, we have built two schools, one in Akinogun primary school and classrooms with necessary infrastructure in Jakande Estate primary school, Abesan. We are building a gigantic modern mini-general hospital at Okunola and we constructed various drainages across all the five wards in our LCDA. When you talk about the gate-Federal road, our administration spent eight million naira as a palliative measure there before it rained, despite the fact that it is a state road. We are looking for another fund to put the road in order and make it motorable for our people while waiting for the state government to come to our rescue. So, for anybody to say that we have abandoned our responsibility it  is not true, we are doing all our jobs conscientiously and they can come to our local council development area to see whether we are fully on ground or not. The good people in the LCDA will confirm this.

Q: What about the allegation that you have secured a permanent suite in a four-star hotel in your LCDA and that you now operate from there, instead of your office at water area?
A: My brother, it is not true, all the information given you are false, I don’t run an hotel and I don’t have any chalet or suite anywhere.  They are obviously the imagination of people who are not happy with success, it’s total falsehood.

Q: What’s the problem between you and the youths in your LCDA?
A: There’s no problem whatsoever between me and the youth or anybody in our LCDA. We have done enough for the youths.  In the area of empowerment, we have given them over N500,000. We however have another line of empowerment that is going on, we want to distribute tricycles to women, youths and other less privileged people in our council area. We are sending about 100 people for training in general farming at the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture training school, Oko-Oba, Agege to learn piggery, snail rearing, rabbitary and fish farming among others. We have already distributed the forms to them, and we have others we have been giving cash empowerment. Another empowerment is coming up in the first week of July to cater for both youths, women and indigent members of the public.

Q: What’s the way forward?
A: I am on course, I am implementing what I have been elected to do. All the infrastructure are in place. Very soon we are going to commission our multi-purpose gigantic mini-general hospital in Okunola and the schools in Akinogun and Jakande Estate, Abesan. We are also going to distribute 10 500kva transformers to 10 communities in the area. The transformers are already in the council secretariat now. We are distributing various equipment and amenities for empowerment, including 250 GCE forms to indigent students.
