Big Clubs ’ll Shun Eagles

Nigeria’s forward, Obinna Nsofor left 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa with a great fear that he and his teammates are in for a difficult time during the summer transfer window to get quality clubs.

Nsofor told P.M.Sports before the Eagles departed Durban for Nigeria that their early exit from the World Cup will haunt the players for some time to come.

“I feel terrible about our performance in South Africa and many people did not know that this World Cup means a lot to us than it means to Nigeria. We are here to play ourselves into big clubs in Europe. But our performance has denied us, especially the younger players, the great opportunity to get big contracts. This showed from the way the scouts, who are here are not having any business in the Eagles’ camp,” he said.

Unlike in previous competitions where I had so many scouts calling in even at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where I was a toast of many of them, who called at all  odd hours to ask after me. This did not happen in South Africa. One thing I know about Vincent Enyeama’s case was that it was a rumour that agents from West Ham were looking out for him, because the scouts were not here in the Eagles’ camp.

“I must confess, the performance of the team has dealt a terrible blow to the future of most of the Nigerian players who were in the 2010 World Cup,” he said.
