City Media Group, publishers of City People Weekly, will, on Sunday, 18 July, 2010, stage the second edition of the much talked about City People Entertainment Award.

Scheduled to take place at the posh 10 Degrees Event Centre, Oregun, Lagos, Nigeria, over 20 music and movie stars will be honoured with awards based on their effort in the past one year.

This year’s award, according to the organisers, is dedicated to the memory of the late rap music star, Olaitan Olanipekun popularly known as Da Grin, who died on 22 April.

According to Seye Kehinde, the publisher, “this year’s award will be quite different. City People Entertainment was initiated in 2004 and since its inception, we have done over 500 events, partnering with over 200 companies as our own little way of contributing to the growth of entertainment in Nigeria. The award was conceived in 2009 with the objective of having music, movie and comedy stars gathered under one roof for one purpose. People are, of course, used to music or movie awards but we are encompassing all and we are very proud to be the only outfit that has taken the giant step to do it.”

The debut edition of the awards was held last year at Abeokuta, Ogun State but this year’s edition will hold in Lagos.

“This year, much is expected from us because of the stunt we pulled last year and I must say categorically that we will not disappoint. Besides the high number of stars that have confirmed their attendance, we have also confirmed a couple of Ghanaian artistes who will not only be attending the event, but also receive awards and perform to the delight of our distinguished guests,” Kehinde stated further, adding, “we have dedicated the award to Da Grin not only because the talented rapper died at his prime or had an effect in the lives of millions of Nigerians, but also because he was very close to City People family. He was a very humble and pleasant person, so we thought he deserves it all and should be celebrated in death.”

Ace comedians Ayo Makinde (AY) and Helen Paul will be compere. Also confirmed to perform at the award ceremony are Skuki, KC Presh, Jimmy Jatt, Mochedah, YQ, Pasuma Wonder, Naeto C and Jaywon, while comedians MC Abbey, Omo Baba and Koffi are expected to thrill guests with rib-cracking jokes.
