Men’s League: Police Lead Atlantic Conference

Police Baton Basketball Club are back on top of the Atlantic Conference table of the NBBF/DSTV Premier League with a 70-64 points’ victory over Nigeria Customs Service Basketball Club in a game decided last week.

The Police team looked shaky at the beginning of the match, as they went down by 13-21 points to the Scott Nnaji tutored Customs side in the first quarter. Efforts by the Coach Mark Balogun tutored Police Baton to come into the game in the second quarter ended  13 points apiece for both sides. Customs went into the break with a 34-26 points advantage.

Police Baton turned the heat on in the third quarter to open up a five points lead with a 28-15 points win in the quarter. They consolidated on this to the fourth quarter, which ended 16-15 points in their favor for cumulative scores of 70-64 points.

Union Bank Basketball Club also warded off stiff challenge from Ebun Comets Basketball Club as they won 69-63 points to climb to the third place on the Atlantic Conference’s table. The bankers won the first, second and fourth quarters (14-08, 14-12 and 25-20 points), while the former Nigerian champions, Ebun Comets, picked the third quarter 23-16 points with Union Bank forward Onyeka Ekpete proving very reliable in the point grabbing game. He made 13 rebounds, while teammates, Samson John and Azuoma Dike netted 14 points each. Comets youthful guard, Obum Onyia scored the game high of 23 points to lead other players in the scoring.
