Campaign For Fashola’s 2nd Term Gathers Momentum

The political atmosphere in Lagos State is getting tense as several groups have emerged, canvassing for a second term for Governor Babatunde Fashola.

One of such groups is the All Christian Leaders and Ministers Forum, ACLMF, an umbrella of Christian leaders in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The body is headed by Rev. Sam Ogedengbe, Special Assistant to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters.   They reaffirmed their unflinching support for the continuation of the present administration of Fashola beyond 2011.

At its 3rd Annual Interdenominational Prayer Session, the forum intensified prayers for Fashola to reign in Lagos beyond 2011.

According to the Presiding Pastor of the Word Church, Lagos, Bishop Chris Mathew, who was the guest speaker at the occasion, the achievements of the governor in just three years of being in the saddle of governance had justified his qualification of being a governor that knows where the shoe pinches.

He maintained that the relative peace experienced in the country was due largely to ceaseless prayers and supplication by the children of God and declared that it was in realisation of this fact they thought it wise to always assist him with prayers.

“ Come to think of it, without being economical with truth, since the assumption of office of the present administration, the governor has proved to be the real actualizer, especially with the way he has allowed residents of the state to enjoy the dividends of democracy through series of transformations in the state.

“We all knew how Okota-Itire road used to be, and we know how it is now. You can judge in your own opinion whether such a person deserves to go for another term or not,” Mathew said.

According to Ogedengbe, it had been one of the visions of the forum to sensitize and mobilise Christians to always pray for  peaceful co-existence in the nation, saying it was only through prayers that the peace of the nation, states and individual could be fully realised.

“It is the objective of the forum to make Christians realise that for as long as they distance themselves from direct or active participation in politics, probably under the notion that politics is dirty, there is no doubt that they would continually be under the rule and dominion of the kind of leaders they would not like,” he stated.
