Only Credible Election Can Lead To Good Governance —JonathanLead

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has again affirmed the commitment of his administration to institution of credible electoral processes, good governance and upholding the tenets of the rule of law in the country. According to the President, Nigeria’s dream of realising good governance can only happen through credible elections.

He stated this today when he received a large delegation from the Benue State Government on condolence visit to State House, Abuja. Governor Gabriel Suswam and the Tor Tiv, Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula, led the delegation.

President Jonathan noted that credible electoral processes give birth to good governance, as “the leader who emerges from a popular election has a duty to work for the interest of the generality of the people.”

He thanked the Benue delegation for coming to condole with the Federal Government over the passage of President Yar’Adua. He extolled the virtues of the late President whom he said meant well for the nation, and pledged to sustain the noble initiatives of the late President.

The President also thanked the delegation for coming to encourage him and Vice President Sambo, assuring that “we will do our best to carry on with the responsibility of leading our great nation in the right path,” Jonathan stated.

He assured Benue people of the Federal Government’s support when necessary.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the delegation, the Tor Tiv, Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula, said the Benue citizens came to condole with President Jonathan over the death of President Yar’Adua and also to congratulate him on his assumption of office as President, Commander-in-Chief.

The delegation also hailed the President’s choice of Arc. Namadi Sambo as Vice President, while urging the VP “to work closely with Mr. President in the daunting task of leading our nation at this critical moment of our history.”

President Jonathan was joined by Vice President Sambo and Senate President David Mark to receive the delegation. Prominent members of the delegation included Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Samuel Ode, former PDP National Chairman, Barnabas Gemade, Mj-Gen Lawrence Onoja (rtd), National Assembly members from Benue State, members of the Benue State Legislature, chairmen of Benue State Local Government Councils, traditional rulers, opinion leaders and notable politicians.
