Political Crisis In Ogun Simmers

The political crisis in Ogun State, Nigeria, is taking a new dimension as both the executive and the legislative arms of government have been firing missiles at each other on television.

While on a TV Programme, HEAD-To-HEAD on Silverbird Television, monitored last night, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Sina Kawonise, described the state’s lawmakers as tools being used by those he called the “Abuja politicians”, adding that their attitude has not helped the state, especially for refusing to cooperate with the governor on the issue of taking the bond.

Kawonise said “the governor has meant well for this state, and he wanted to leave a good legacy in the state but the so-called Abuja politicians have been destabilising the state. They have decided to establish their own party structure even though they have no followers. The governor has no issue with them. We know their sponsors and the medium they use. Those medium are not a credible ones.”

Reacting to the statement, the Chairman House Committee on Information, Hon. (Dr.) Tokunbo Oshin representing Ijebu-North Constituency II, described the commissioner as a busted water pipe who is acting the script written by his pay master.

The lawmaker said: “We won’t join issues with them. Kawonise knows nothing about OGD, he is acting the script given to him. It is a well known fact that the governor has ruined the state. They don’t know what they are saying. Nobody is sponsoring us, but posterity will judge all of us.”

Corroborating the view of Oshin, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Remmy Hazzan, while answering questions on Channels Television this morning, debunked the allegations of being sponsored.

He maintained that “the executive has not been fair with the state. Every fact has shown that the state is in debt, but all the financial managers in the state have not been able to come out to tell us the specific amount the state owes, yet they are talking of collecting bond that will take the state into bondage.”

Commenting on the statements, the Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Yomi Majekodunmi, who was also on Channels Television this morning, said that the lawmakers are being mischievous, adding that, “in another few months, all this charade will end. As everybody will be going back to his/her constituency to campaign for their votes, then everybody will know his worth.”

He described the state governor as a reasonable and prudent financial manager who means well for the state.
